The privacy policy for the Ministry of Finance contains detailed information on how we process personal data and on what basis.

Who are we?

The Ministry of Finance is a public authority. Among other, the ministry is responsible for the preparation of the Finance Bill, which is popularly speaking the budget for all revenues and expenses.

Why do we need your personal data?

Personal data on citizens is collected and processed as part of the Ministry of Finance's role as a public authority. Due to this, a certain amount of your personal data will be processed by us when you contact the Ministry of Finance.

Besides, the Ministry of Finance processes your personal data in order to provide the best possible service as a public authority.

When you visit the Ministry of Finance's website, cookies are used for statistical purposes to gain an overview of the number of visitors to the website and which pages on the website they visit. You have the option of clicking "Reject cookies" (Do not accept cookies for statistics) if you do not wish to have your information collected.

Sign up via email to automatically receive the Ministry of Finance's newsletter. When you sign up to receive the Ministry of Finance's newsletter, data is collected on your email address. You can cancel your subscription to the newsletter at any time and we will then delete you form our list of recipients.

Finally, the Ministry of Finance processes personal data in connection with any inquiries we may receive and in relation to specific cases processed by the Ministry of Finance. When you write us, your inquiry and personal data will be registered by our electronic case and document management system. All documents on the case will be subject to the Danish Public Administration Act and the Danish Access to Public Administration Files Act, including regulations on the legal right of access.

If we receive a request on the right of access to the specific case, in which your personal data is included, we normally have to disclose information unless it is confidential.

Legal framework

The legal framework for the processing of your personal data in connection to inquiries follows the General Data Protection Regulation article 6, section 1, letter e on exercise of public authority.

The legal framework for the processing of your personal data in connection with new letters follows the General Data Protection Regulation article 6, section 1, letter a on consent.

Categories of personal data

In relation to inquiries, the Ministry of Finance will process your name, email and the personal information that you state in the inquiry. In relation to registration for the newsletter, the Ministry of Finance will process name, occupation, workplace and email. 

Will others receive your personal data?

In some cases, the Ministry of Finance will be required to share information with other public authorities. However, this transfer of data is limited to the personal information processed as part of public administration.

Beyond that, the Ministry of Finance hands over your personal data to the data processors of the Ministry of Finance who assist in operating and managing our IT systems.

How long will your information be stored?

The Ministry of Finance will only store and process your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data was processed. In some areas, there is a statutory limit on the period of time that personal data can be stored. In such cases, legislation will determine for how long there is a purpose for storing and processing your personal data.

When there is no longer a purpose for processing your personal data, it will be deleted, anonymized or archived in accordance with the regulations in archive legislation.

Security

When we receive your information at the Ministry of Finance we will take the necessary measures to ensure that your data is processed securely. We have implemented a number if technical and organizational security measures to protect against accidental or unlawful destruction or accidental loss of information. Furthermore, additional measures are in place to ensure that your data is not disclosed to an outside third party, misused or in any other way processed in contravention of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Please note that ordinary emails sent to the Ministry of Finance are not encrypted. You should therefore use e.g. Digital Post or another secure connection if you intend to send protected information; e.g. information concerning private matters, CPR number (civil registration number) or similar.

Your rights

You have a number of rights with regard to the processing of your personal data by the Ministry of Finance. These include:

  • Right of access to your personal data
  • Right of rectification of your personal data
  • Right of erasure of your personal data
  • Right to the restriction of processing of your personal data
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing of your personal data

Please note, that there are certain exceptions to these rights, which means you will not always be able to exercise all of your rights. This is because, as a public authority, in many cases the Ministry of Finance processes personal data when exercising its official authority.

Contact the Ministry of Finance's Data Protection Officer

The Ministry of Finance and its agencies have appointed a Data Protection Officer who provides guidance on the principles of data protection within the field of the Ministry of Finance.

The Data Protection Officer's task is to help the Ministry of Finance to comply with existing regulation on the processing of personal data.

The Data Protection Officer can guide you on your rights in connection to the processing of your personal data within the area of the Ministry of Finance.
