5. Division: International economics
The 5th division is responsible for the ministry’s tasks in the field of international economic cooperation, including the economic cooperation in the EU, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), meetings of the Nordic finance ministers etc. as well as analysing international economic issues.
The division handles economic policy proposals and initiatives discussed in international fora, including developing Danish positions on economic issues. The division promotes Danish analyses and positions internationally on the one hand and on the other hand works to ensure that Danish economic policy takes international conditions and commitments into account.
Our field of work includes fiscal policy cooperation in the EU (the Stability and Growth Pact, the Fiscal Compact etc.) and EU-cooperation on structural policies, taxation policy and financial regulation and supervision (including the banking union etc.), Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the euro area cooperation, as well as the monetary policy of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the ERM-II fixed exchange rate mechanism. The division also works on global economic cooperation within i.a. the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and G20, as well as Nordic economic cooperation etc. Finally the division undertakes analyses of international economic and financial issues relevant for Danish and international economic policy.
The division prepares the participation of the Minister for Finance in the EU Council of economy and finance ministers (ECOFIN), IMF meetings etc. and participates in the preparatory work with other countries at technical level. The division also contributes to i.a. the Prime Minister’s participation in economic discussions of economic policy issues in the European Council etc.
